Note: This is a draft article not yet complete, in the future I'll clean it up a bit and consolidate both parts.
People who uphold the human qualities of concience, justice, equality, and fairness and human rights do not respect or look up to cold blooded killers, opressors, barbarians, and dictators. So what can be said about a person that looks up to and respects some of the worst human rights abusers of this century like Hitler, pal pot, Kim Jong-Il just to name a few. Such a person does not posess any capacity for humanism.
If we ask the sunni muslims today to give their opinion of the personality called "Khalid bin Waleed" Everyone would unanimously express their approval, respect and exhuberance over him. He is a hero and one of the companions and a leading example for muslims.
I wonder if those who love this man have taken the time to read his biography and history.
First Hadith:Bukhari :: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 628 & Bukhari :: Book 9 :: Volume 89 :: Hadith 299
Military Expeditions led by the Prophet (

) (Al-Maghaazi)
Narrated Salim's father:
The Prophet sent Khalid bin Al-Walid to the tribe of Jadhima and Khalid invited them to Islam but they could not express themselves by saying, "Aslamna (i.e. we have embraced Islam)," but they started saying "Saba'na! Saba'na (i.e. we have come out of one religion to another)." Khalid kept on killing (some of) them and taking (some of) them as captives and gave every one of us his Captive. When there came the day then Khalid ordered that each man (i.e. Muslim soldier) should kill his captive, I said, "By Allah, I will not kill my captive, and none of my companions will kill his captive." When we reached the Prophet, we mentioned to him the whole story. On that, the Prophet raised both his hands and said twice, "O Allah! I am free from what Khalid has done."

The hadith above raises a lot of questions about the personality of Khalid ibn Waleed
1. Bani Jadhima are an arab tribe from yemen, hence arabic is their native language. What prevented them from expressing themselves by saying we have embraced islam?, notice the hadith also says "when there came the day then khalid ordered that each man should kill his captive" this means bani Jadhima had the entire night to convince Khalid and his army that they are muslims and he is mistaken. What prevented them from expressing they are muslim?
2. from the intro to this hadith, Bukhari is giving us the impression that bani Jadhima are not muslim, because we read "khalid invited them to Islam" he must have thought they were not muslim to begin with to invite them to islam, having known they are not muslim to begin with, why does khalid kill them for saying "we have come out of one religion to another"? doesn't that emply they came out of shirk into islam?
3. Allah tells us in the Quran "Those who listen to the word, then follow the best of it; those are they whom Allah has guided, and those it is who are the men of understanding." Quran 39:18
When Khalid hears them say "we have changed.." is he not obliged to ask them what religion they changed from/to?
4. If we are to kill those who do not accept islam then what is the meaning of "there is no compulsion in religion"? and what prevented Khalid from learning and understanding this holy verse?
Seeing that the bukhari hadith leaves a lot of unanswered questions, we resort to the history books to shed some light on this event.
Second Hadith:Tabaqatul Kubra by Ibn Sa'ad Vol.2 Page 147
"When Khalid had returned from destroying the 'Uzzat (idol), The prophet

sent him to Bani Judhaima calling them towards islam and did not send him to fight, Khalid left Makka with 350 men made up of Muhajireen (imigrants), Ansar (helpers), and the tribe of bani salim. When khalid reached his destination he asked (the bani Judhaima) what are you?
They answered 'we are muslims, we believed in Muhammad

and we built the mosques in our yards and called made the azaan (call to prayer) in them' Khalid asked 'then why are you armed with weapons?' they answered 'There's enmity between us and one of the arab tribes, and we were afraid you were them so we armed ourselves' khalid said 'Put down your weapons and surrender yourselves' they surrendered themselves and khalid gave a prisoner to every one of his army men. When day break approached, khalid called out 'whoever has a prisoner with him let him get bready and kill his prisoner'. Bani Salim killed the prisoners they had but the ansaar and muhajireen (helpers and imigrants) refused and set free their prisoners. When the news reached the prophet

, he lifted his hands up to the sky and said 'O Allah! I am free from what Khalid has done.'"
Observation
-----------
This version of the hadith varies quiet a bit from the version is bukhari and while offering a bit more detail it raises some more questions:
1. Why did Khalid embark on this masacare against the bani Judhaima? They are muslims, they believed in the prophethood of muhammad

they built the mosques in their yards, they called to prayer and even put down their weapons. Even the unbelievers are safe if they refrain from fighting the muslims so why does khalid masacare these muslims? whats the big secret here?
Third Hadith:Kanzul Ummal Vol.13 page 222 Hadith #36674
Narrated

a bin al-akwa':
"When khalid bin walid returned to the prophet

after what he did with the bani Judhaima, he was critized by Abdulrahman ibn Auf; he said 'Oh Khalid, you took upon yourself the tradition of Jahiliyah (customs practiced in the era of ignorance before islam) and you killed them out of revenge for your uncle al-fakih, may Allah fight you' Umar ibn al-khattab also assisted Abdulrahman in this matter.
Khalid: 'I only killed them for killing your father'
Abdulrahman: 'you lie, by Allah I killed the killer of my father with my own hands, and Uthman ibn Affan is my whitness' He turned to Uthman and said 'I ask you by Allah, do you know that I killed the killer of my father'
Uthman: 'By Allah yes'
Abdulrahman said Woe to you oh Khalid, even if I didn't kill my father's killer, do you then kill muslims for what they did to my father in the era of ignorance?'
Khalid:'And who informed you they were muslims?'
Abdulrahman: 'everyone from your contingent are explaining that you found they built mosques and testified their islam and you lifted the sword upon them.
Khalid: 'An order from the prophet

has reached me that I should kill them so I followed his order'
Abdulrahman: 'you lie against the messenger of Allah'. Abdulrahman turned against Khalid, and the messenger of Allah

turned away from khalid and became angered with him"
Observation
-----------
1. Finally the big secret has been exposed, we now know that Khalid killed the bani Judhaima in revenge for killing his uncle al-fakih before islam. The prophet

forbade them from taking revenge for events that happened during the era of ignorance, Yet khalid Ignores this directive and does what he wills.
2. Khalid lied when abdulrahman confronted him by claiming that He killed them for abdulrahman's father
3. Khalid lied against the prophet by claiming the prophet ordered he attack them
4. The messenger of Allah

is angrey with Khalid, the messenger's anger means Allah (swt) is also angry.
5. Allah (swt) tells us in the Quran not to befriend a people whome Allah is angy with (Quran 60:13)
Fourth Hadith:--------------
Al-mustadrak :: remembering the merits of Ammar bin Yair (ra) Vol.13 page 133 (online version)
Narrated al-ashtar:
"I heard khalid bn al-walid say; The messenger of Allah

sent me with a contingent and Ammar bin Yasir was with me. We encountered and killed a people,
among them were a muslim family. Ammar said to me 'these are people who testified to Allah's oneness', but I didn't pay attention to him and did with them as the others (killed them) and Ammar persisted in promising me that he will inform the messenger about what I did
