Why is there a double standard in sunni belief? - Part 3

At least one person that was involved in the killing of Uthman was a companion. His name is Abdulrahman ibn Udais al-balawi. He was one of the companions who gave the allegiance under the tree.

The hadith below says .."Abdulrahman bin Udais al-balawi came forward and he was one of those who gave his allegiance (to the prophet) under the tree…"

In another hadith, we read "..Ibn luhaiqa said Abdulrahman bin Udais al-balawi went with the people of Egypt to Uthman and they killed him…." "…I said: I heard that al-dhahabi said that Abdulrahman al-balawi is the fountainhead of Fitnah (civil unrest) and it is not permissible to relate any hadith from him.

After speaking about uthman's history the author says "..and those that participated in killing uthman were kinata bin yashr al-tajibi, and qatira al-skuni, and Abdulrahman bin Udais al-balawi, and all of them are from Egypt.

Why is there a double standard in sunni belief? - Part 2

Abu Zoo`ra ar Razee ® said:
"إذا رأيت الرجل ينتقص أحداً من أصحاب رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فاعلم أنه زنديق، وذلك أن الرسول -صلى الله عليه وسلم-عندنا حق، والقرآن حق، وإنما أدى إلينا هذا القرآن والسنن أصحاب رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم-....". "Tareeh al dimashk"

Al-razi says: beware, if you see a man criticize even 1 of the companions then he is a "zindeeq" infidel. That is because the prophet (pbuh) is true and the Quran is true, and it is the companions who brought to us the Quran and the sunnah of the messenger (pbuh).

Here al-razi is saying that if you criticize the integrity of the companions then you are criticizing the integrity of the Quran and nobody will do that except an infidel. In other words, shias are infidels for criticizing the companions.

why is there a double standard in Sunni Belief? - Part 1

The sunnis believe that the sahaba are a measuring stick between truth and falsehood, whoever disagrees with even one of the sahaba then he is an evil doer, apostate, and an infidel with the exception of Imam Ali AS.gif.

If a person disagrees with Imam Ali AS.gif then they don't accuse that person of evil doing, apostatizing and infidelity, rather they say he/she endeavored in interpreting the law but made a mistake. But if a person disagreed with Uthman for example then that person is considered an evil doer, apostate and infidel. Proof of this double standard and hypocrisy is found in the sunni stance towards those who surrounded uthman and caused his death and their position towards those who fought and caused the death of Imam Ali AS.gif.

Whomever fought uthman and surrounded him until his death; the sunnis tell us they were unbelievers, evil doers, apostates because they disobeyed the khalifa of the Muslims and caused a civil unrest (Fitnah) among the Muslims. But those who fought Ali AS.gif and caused his death such as Aisha, Talha, Zubair, Mu'awiyah, ibn Muljam; the sunnis tell us they endeavored in interpreting the law but were mistaken (Ijtahadu Wa Akhta'uu).

This is the situation with them. If you disagree with and go against Ali AS.gif then no problem, but you must agree with all of the sahaba and believe in their merit and high status. That is all of the sahaba are just.

Anti-semitism in Islam

I think we are confusing anti-semitism with anti-Zionism. I don't deny there is a lot of anti-semitism in the Muslim Arab world, regrettably many Muslims especially Arabs are conditioned to believe that Jews in general are traitors and descendants of pigs. They injured and grieved our prophet and that Muslims will exterminate them before the end of time. This attitude and line of thinking is propagated mostly by the religious establishment and reinforced by current events and the media. These attitudes need to be challenged and on this point I agree that Jews have as much a right as any Palestinian to exist on that land.

But why should the Palestinians be made to pay for the crimes of the Europeans in the Holocaust? After all the establishment of the state of Israel was in response to the Holocaust that happened in Christian Europe in which Palestinians / Arabs / Muslims played no role. But who is paying the price of the Holocaust?
- millions of Palestinians who have been exiled and not allowed to return to their homeland, do they not have as much right as jews to that land?
- millions of Palestinians who do not have a representative in government, why are not the Palestinians given the right to participate in free and democratic elections as members of single nation for both jews and non-jews.
- Whole communities that have been occupied and segregated from one another. Why is there jewish only settlements on land that is supposed to be for all?
- hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who forcibly lost their homes, farmland and once national landmarks to these Jewish settlements.

So there you have it, the anti-zionist movement is against a state that is supported through western guilt and paid for by Palestinian blood, what we want to see is a state that looks after all of its citizens equally.

Discussions around the Qur'an

Salaam,

If I could add one more note to this discussion. Part of the problem in these accusations lies in peoples understanding or definitions of what the Qur'an is which differes from one sect to another. Some may consider the Quran to be limited to only the written text, that which has been revealed to the Messenger (pbuh) and compiled into a book. Others may define the Quran as the written text plus its meanings. Some of its meanings are clear and apparent while others are hidden, for example when Allah (swt) reveales the verses "Alif Laam Meem" He also teaches the prophet (pbuh) what these verses mean. Those meanings are part of the Quran even though they are not written in the text of the Qur'an.

Some shia scholars including Shaikh Mufid believe that while the text of the Qur'an is complete, and there are no additional or missing verses, some of its meanings have been tampered with and altered. Specifically those verses that were revealed about Imam Ali (as) and have been explained away differently.

What is important to note is that Shaikh mufid, and saduq clearly state that they believe Qur'an to be both the text and its meanings, so when they say the Quran has been altered or tampered with, they are refering to the commentary of the Quran and not the preserved text.

I hope this clarifies the issue.

factory built homes

We bought a new house, this one will be built on an assembly line in a factory. I went to the site a few months ago and spoke to one of their engineers expressing some concerns about the stability of the house when being transported from the factory to its final destination.

The Mattamy guy assured us that they've put test / model houses under stress test and they've held up pretty well, no cracks in the wall, broken tile or wood. This remains to be seen as none of the new homes have closed yet.

Daddy 2007

My vision of myself for as long as I can remember has been to be married and start a family before 30. My wife is now 8 months pregnant with our first child, we named her Safiyah after my grandmother.

I'm happy and excited to be a father but not sure what to expect, I mean it hasn't hit me yet how much my life will change but I am beginning to understand the loving parent's devotion to his children, to secure their safety and well-being, to see them happy and provide for them all the opportunities life has to offer.

but for now I need to find me a "big daddy" T-shirt.
