Roots of Faith (Usūl al-Dīn), Main Doctrines - Part 1

Islam is like a tree whose roots are its beliefs and whose branches are its practices. If the roots are not firm and healthy, the tree will not survive - but the roots only form the foundation of the tree. This section will deal with only the roots of faith. The roots of faith are the general concepts of islam which are the most important and basic

1. Monotheism: The Oneness of Allah (
tawhid)
Tawhīd
(also Tawhid or Tauhid or Tawheed; Arabic أٹأ¦أچأأڈ) is the Islamic concept of monotheism. In Arabic, Tawhīd means "unification, ie to unify or to keep something unified as one." In Islam, Tawhīd means to assert the unity of God. The opposite of Tawhīd is shirk, which means "Association" in Arabic. Muslims view polytheism and idolatry as shirk.
  • Allah, or God, is the center of Muslim belief.
  • There is only one God Who is eternal, unique, and has no blood relation to any human beings
QUOTE
Say He is Allah the One. Allah the Eternal. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is nothing comparable to Him. Quran (112:1-4)
2. Divine Justice ('adl)
Anyone who believes in Islamic monotheism must believe in the Almighty's justice.
  • Allah is just, He never wrongs His creatures, for injustice is an evil deed while He is far from doing evil.
  • He is omniscient, He does not neglect anything.
  • He is self-sufficient, He has no cause to wrong others.
  • He owns everything, He does not need the actions of anyone
QUOTE
"He is always standing firm on justice. There is no God but Him, the Mighty, the Wise." Quran (3:18)
"And your Lord does not deal unjustly with anyone." Quran (18:49)

3. Prophethood (nubuwwa)
Prophethood denotes that God has appointed perfect Prophets and Messengers to teach mankind Gods religion.

  • Prophets received divine revelation.
  • they are infallible - that is, they never committed any sin
  • These prophets were of two types: "local" and "universal."
  • the local prophets were sent with specific messages to specific groups of people.
  • The universal prophets were sent with messages and books for all of humankind.
  • There were only five universal prophets, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (Peace be upon them all)
4. Succession to the Prophet Muhammad ( pbuh ) (imama)
All of the prophets and messengers of God had successors, and just as Allah appointed His prophets and messengers for the guidance of mankind, He also appointed successors to the prophets and messengers as a matter of necessity.
  • These successors are called imams and are appointed by Allah, not by humankind.
  • The right to ordain imams belongs only to Almighty Allah.
  • Allah also attributes the right of appointing leaders to Himself
QUOTE
"And remember when your Lord said to the angels, 'Verily I am going to place a successor (khalifa)...." Quran (2:30)
"O David! Verily We have placed you as a successor (khalifa) on earth." Quran (38:26)
"And remember when the Lord of Abraham tried him with certain commands which he fulfilled; Allah said to him, 'Verily I am going to make you a leader (imam) of mankind.'" Quran (2:124)
"We made from among them leaders, giving guidance under Our command." Quran (32:24)

5. The Day of Judgement and the Resurrection (qiyama)
Belief in the day of judgement is part of the Islamic creed and is a fundamental tenet of faith in islam.
  • Allah placed human beings on the earth to test them.
  • The life of the human being does not end at death.
  • Their souls then live on, facing the grave and the questioning therein.
  • their bodies will be resurrected on the Day of Judgement.
  • On that day, they will receive whatever they deserve according to their beliefs and deeds in life.
  • Some people will go to Heaven and others will go to Hell.

Omar Ibn Khattab

A slave boy named nafil belonged to lu'i bin ghalib al-quraishi, when al-quraishi passed away, Abdul-muttalib took guardianship of the slave boy nafil. Abdul Muttalib also had a young lady name Suhak take care of his sheep, he liked her and desired to cherish her for himself. So Abdul muttalib made her wear a leather chastity device with a lock and kept the key to himself.

The slave boy Nafil fancied and adored Suhak as he used to see her in the grazing field and one day, they made an arrangement to meet in privacy while Abdul Muttalib was away. Suhak told him I have no way of fulfilling what you want because of this chastity device which only Abdul-Muttalib has a key to. Nafil told her not to worry as he can get it off, so he grabed some butter and grease and began to work it through the leather device and her skin until the device slid to her thighs.

Suhak and Nafil coupled that night and Suhak was pregnant with a boy whom she named khattab. She had the boy and left it around one of the nearby garbage dumps at night out of fear of Abdul Muttalib. The boy was picked up by an old jewish lady and was raised by her. Khattab grew to be a young man.

As he was out cutting wood, Suhak would check up on him while hiding but one day khattab saw her revealing her bottom amorously. Not knowing who she was he coupled with her. Suhak was pregnant with a girl named Hantama. Suhak had the girl and left her in the garbage dumps near Makkah. The girl was picked up by Hisham ibn Mughira, she became a slave girl for him. One day Khattab saw her and asked her hand in marriage from Hisham. Hisham married Hantama to Khattab and they had a boy named Omar.

Just to recap
-------------
- Suhak + Nafil = Khattab
- Suhak + Khattab = Hantama
- khattab + Hantama = Omar

Suhak Omar's grandmother from both parents.
Hantama and Khattab are siblings as well as Umar's Parents and well as his aunt and uncle

For many people in Iraq, the worst and the most hellish days are when they face armed attack from one of the gangs operating in Baghdad. However, for a Christian Bishop, the same day proved to be the most blissful day of his life! Fifty-year-old Father Thamir Nasrani was intercepted by an armed group that opened fire on him in one of the suburbs of Baghdad. He fell on the ground bleeding profusely and the gang bolted out after the assault. The police took their own time in reaching the site of the incident accompanied by an ambulance. The medical assistance team tried hard to stop the acute bleeding while he was rushed to the hospital in the ambulance. The doctors at the hospital concluded that there is no use in providing further medical assistance to Father Thamir because he had sunk into the unconsciousness of inevitable death. They decided to keep him in the mortuary refrigerator. But a miracle happened there!

Father Thamir states, “While I was completely unconscious, I saw two persons with light emanating from them towards heaven. One of them was more charming and radiant than the other. This man told me, Get up and follow me.' I asked him, 'Sir, who are you?’ He did not respond but he repeated his order. I immediately got up and started walking behind him slowly. We were walking between two rows of people unknown to me. At the end, a door appeared and he stopped there. He turned towards me and said, 'Stop here and don’t come with me.' Then he disappeared through that door.

At that moment, I suddenly woke up and found myself in a refrigerator among dead bodies! I was extremely scared. But after composing myself, I got up and opened the door of the room. I walked down the passage for a while and found my relatives and friends crying with a coffin lying nearby, which they had brought to carry my body for burial! They seemed to lose track of everything when they saw me alive.

But soon they surrounded me and started yelling and calling for doctors. Doctors and nurses could not believe their eyes when they saw me alive. They were baffled by my survival after so many hours and soon shifted me to the operation theatre to extract bullets from my body and for further treatment and blood transfusion.

The doctors felt that what happened to Father Thamir is a miracle as they are unable to understand the reason for his survival. As for Father Thamir, he was haunted by this mystery for months until he chanced upon the right answer!

Father Thamir states, “I was recovering slowly from my physical injuries, yet I kept asking myself about the person whom I saw in the mortuary refrigerator and what actually happened to me. This question was hovering on my mind day and night and I was not able to get an answer. Hence, I kept praying to God to guide me to the answer.” “Once, one of my friends asked me to accompany him to visit his Muslim friend who was residing in the Kazmia region of Baghdad – a holy city of Shia Muslims where two Imams, Musa al- Kazim and Muhammad al- Jawwad, peace be upon them, are buried. While we were in Mr. Naseer Hassan Ali’s house, my friend turned towards me and said, “How about relating your story to Mr. Naseer?” I said, “Sure”.

When I finished my narration, Mr. Naseer inquired, "Do you remember the features of the person whom you saw in your dream?" I said, “Yes”. He said, "If I show you some pictures, will you be able to recognize him?" I said, “Of course, as long as he is one among them”. Mr. Naseer brought some pictures and asked me to have a look at them. While browsing through the pictures one by one, I exclaimed, “Oh my God, this is him!” He asked me, "Are you sure?" I said “Yes, this is him. Please tell me who this person is?” He replied that this was Imam Ali, peace be upon him!

I couldn’t believe that because even though I was a tolerant Christian, I was a firm believer of my religion. My forefathers were the ones who wrote the Holy Book and my family has a tremendous history of serving the church.

It was quite difficult for me to believe that the person whom I saw and who breathed new life into me was Imam Al i , the cousin of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his family) and husband of his daughter, Fatima al-Zahraa (peace be upon her). This was so distant from my Christian belief.

While I was still in this state of bewilderment, Mr. Naseer asked me, “What about visiting the sons of Ali, Imam Musa and Imam Jawwad along with us in the Holy House. There you can talk to them and do some soul searching. I readily agreed.

I really wanted to know the truth and as soon as I reached the Holy House with two golden domes towering over it, my heartbeats appeared to signal something to me. I prayed to God and I felt as if my soul is soaring towards heaven and that I was very close to Imam Ali. In simple words, I felt as though everything was leading me spiritually towards him as if the God was telling me “The truth is with Imam Ali”.

Since then, the bond between Father Thamir and Mr. Naseer, who heads a religious committee that organizes street processions on religious occasions, grew stronger. Father Thamir, by virtue of his relation with Mr. Naseer, was researching Shiite sect of Islam, the history of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), the history of Imam Ali and the history of his sons and their teachings.

Father Thamir says, “I strongly believe that Islam is the religion which God wants us to follow and Shiite faith is the true way of Islam. When I read the story of Imam Hussain’s (peace be upon him) martyrdom, I wept bitterly and became a fanatic admirer of him! Eventually, I decided to abandon

Christianity to embrace Islam despite all the sufferings this will bring along and in spite of many sacrifices that it will require. The barbaric incident which I suffered was a message from God to know the truth and believe in it.

Father Thamir decided to visit the Holy City of Karbala, where Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) was martyred with his brothers and companions after the famous war of al-Taf which they fought against the dictatorial government ofYazid bin Muaawiya.

It was a historic moment when Father Thamir Nasrani entered the holy Shrine of Imam Hussein with Allama al-Sayyed Mahdi al-Shirazi where thousands of people were assembled to catch a glimpse of him. When he reached the door, Father Thamir prostrated and kissed the doorstep crying and loudly saying “O my loved one, O Hussein!” Then, he stood up and asked for the sacred tomb of Imam Hussein to kiss it and seek blessings.

The satellite channel al-Anwar broadcast an interview with him. In that interview, he invited Christians from all over the world to convert to Islam, the religion of love, peace and justice. He clarified that he intended to be a dedicated servant of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and that he had been chosen to be the follower of the Revered Ayatullah al Uthma al Sayyed Sadiq al Shirazi.

One among the most impressive clips of the meeting is Father Thamir ’s message in Syriac language to his mother who lives in United States in which he told her crying, “Dear mother… I became a Muslim because Islam is the truth, I pray to Lord to protect you and lead you to this as He did with me. I love you mother.”

Bukhari kiked out of Bukhara for his fatwa

Imam Bukhari, Author of the most authentic book of hadith for sunnis "Sahih Bukhari" was kicked out of his home city Bukhara because of a strange fatwa. Excuse my lose translation, from this point I will put in my own words (mr bukhari) to identify the person.

Lets read it together.

Even if two children suckle milk from the same animal, it does not count as suckling but counts as eating from the same plate, and Muhammad ibn Ismaeel the one who mentioned this news affirms that the suckling becomes haraam. so He (Imam Bukhari) entered the city of Bukhara around the same time as Shaikh Imam Abu Hafs may Allah have mercy on him; he started declaring fatwas; the shaikh advised him not to do so because he (mr bukhari) has not reached that stage yet. But (mr bukhari) he refused until the day he declared a fatwa on this subject "if two children drink milk of the same calf, the children become haraam to one another." So he (mr bukhari) when asked, affirmed that they are haraam to one another. The scholars gathered against him and kicked him out because of this Fatwa.

Seriously how funny is that laugh.gif , According to Bukhari logic, if a boy and a girl drink the milk of the same animal then they can no longer be married and are counted as blood relatives.
Welcome to the twilight zone that is the BAKRI Sect.

The Salafi god and the mosquito

sl.gif

Salafis believe that Allah (swt) can mount a mosquito and fly around on it.

Imam Darami the author of Sunan al-darami in his book 'Aqa'id al-salaf (creed of the salaf) page 443 writes:

"It has reached us that when the Angels lifted the throne while the almighty is on top of it in his might and glory, they were weak in lifting it, and they rested and bent onto their knees until they said (there is no might or power except with Allah) but they lifted it with His power and will, and if it wasn't for it (His power and will), it would not have been possible for the throne, or those that carry it or the skies or the earth or whoever is inside it. And if he so wished, he would have mounted on the back of a mosquito and she would have carried Him by His Divine Grace, so how about a great throne that is larger than the seven skies?

13 hypocrite unknown companions

we read in Sahih Muslim Vol.13 page 359 Hadith #4983 that there are 12 hypocrites among the companions of the messenger pbuh.gif
The messenger pbuh.gif said "there are 12 hypocrites among my companions..."

and if we open the sunni book, Maghazi al-waqidi to vol.1 page 1040 of the on-line version. It may be found at www.islamport.com
and page 1043-1044 of the print version. we read the following story:

when the messenger was on the road, some hypocrites conspired against him. They agreed in secret to throw him off Aqabah (the name of a difficult path to cross on a mountain). When the news reached the messenger pbuh.gif that they wanted to pass the Aqabah with him. He (the messenger) anounced publicly to the people asking them to cross the lower valies for it is easier for them and wider.

The people crossed the valey and he crossed the Aqabah, the messenger pbuh.gif ordered Ammar yassir to hold the reins of his camel and guide it and Hudhaifah from behind the camel. As the messenger pbuh.gif was crossing he herad that some people have cheated him and he became very angry and ordered Hudhaifah to turn them away. The conspirators thought the messenger pbuh.gif had known their plot so they quickly jumped off the Aqabah in a hurry until they mixed with the people.

When the messenger had exited the difficult path (Aqabah), he said to Hudhaifa, did you know any of the people you have turned away? he said Oh messenger of Allah, I know so and so (fulan wa fulan).....

When the morning came Asid bin Al-Hasir said: Oh messenger of Allah, what prevented you from crossing the valey yesterday, for it was easier then the Aqabah, the messenger said: Oh abu Yahya, do you know what the hypocrites wanted to do yesterday and what they were concerned with? they said we will follow him into the Aqabah, and when the night arrives to throw me off from my ride.

Asid said: Oh messenger of Allah. The people have gathered so order the tribe of each man to kill the one who desired that for you or if you desire by the one that sent you in truth. Tell me their names and I will return to you with their heads... verily these types of people should not be left alone oh messenger of Allah until when are we going to let them go on? today they are only but a few and islam is now strong why leave them?
The messenger pbuh.gif said to Usaid: I hate for people to say Muhammad was victorious against the unbelievers and then turned on his companions. Usaid said: these people are not companions!.
The messenger said: do they not outwardly testify "No Diety except Allah"?
Usaid said: yes and there is no testimony of faith for them.
The messenger pbuh.gif said: do they not outwardly testify I am the messenger of Allah?
Usaid said: yes and there is no testimony of faith for them.
The messenger pbuh.gif said: I have been forbidden from killing those people....
It is said the companions of Aqabah (the hypocrites who tried to kill the messenger at Aqabah) were 13 men, the messenger pbuh.gif had named them to Hudhaifah and to Ammar may Allah have mercy on their souls.

Sahih Muslim Vol.13 page 359 Hadith #4983

A companion can be a kaffir

From reading Surah Khaf Verse 35-37. The Quran uses the word companion / Sahib on a kafir. I.e. the companion of the believer was an unbeliever.

We read:

And he entered in his garden while wronging his soul. He said, 'I do not think that it will ever perish';
And I do not think that the Hour will ever come, and even if I am returned to my Lord, then I shall surely, get a better place of return than this garden.
His companion replied to him while arguing with him, 'do you disbelieve in Him Who created you from dust then from a purified drop of water, then made you a right man?'
